Jean Shelton

Acting teacher Jean Shelton (1928- ) was the first major Method teacher in the Bay Area. The first play Jean appeared in Off-Broadway was Molière’s The Imaginary Invalid. Other early plays were Ibsen’s Ghosts (Jean played Andromache, with Margaret “Beanie” Barker of the Group Theatre as Hecuba), and The Trojan Women. Over the years she appeared in many plays Off-Broadway and in summer stock, including A Streetcar Named Desire, Born Yesterday, and Chamber Music. She did a small amount of teaching and directing in New York as well.
