Inga Weiss

A self-described “adventuress,” Inga Weiss (circa 1930- ) left her home and good parents in Ansbach, Germany and went to East Germany to study with Mary Wigman, the originator of German Expressionist dance whose powerful work and teaching transformed Weiss. Years later, Weiss founded the contemporary dance program at Stanford University, where she taught in the dance department for more than 25 years. She was a major force in launching Stanford’s master’s degree program in dance in 1976.
